After School Student Enrollment Packet – 2018-19 Welcome to the Union Baptist Church After School Care Program which our kids affectionately call KIDS CLUB This is a brand-new ministry of Union Baptist Church which started August 7th of 2017. It has been an exciting first year and we have learned lots of things that can improve our program for our students, our parents, and our staff. We are excited to begin our second year starting the first day of school after summer is over so please begin planning now and get preregistered for the care of your students after school next year. That way you can enjoy the summer with one less thing to mark off your to-do list. If you have any question about Kids Club please call or come by we would love to talk with you.

Here’s what Kids Club is all about:

Its our desire to assist parents and guardians with a dependable, fun, safe, and supervised Christian environment for your elementary school aged child.  Our after school care program will be open from 3:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M., Monday-Friday. It is our desire to help each family grow in their relationship with each other and the Lord by providing a place where homework can be completed, tutoring is available, fun can be shared and Jesus is praised. Here are just a few things your child can experience while in our care.

  • Homework Assistance
  • Tutoring Assistance for specific subjects
  • Bible stories and lessons
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Outdoor Playtime, with Sports, Health and Fitness Activities
  • Songs of praise and worship

For your convenience, our program operates on the same calendar as Henderson county schools so you don’t have to keep up with two different calendars. Simply put if school is in session we are too.

Because our current program is strictly for after school care we cannot be open on: Any In-?Service days, snow days, or days school is cancelled due to any other issues.  As the Lord leads this maybe something we can consider in the future.

Genesis 24:12 Then he said, “O LORD God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham.

In Genesis 24, Abraham sent his servant on a mission to find a bride for Isaac, and all along the way the servant pleaded with God for success. Why? Because he understood that the only true success we experience in life comes from prayer and perseverance. As a result, God did give the servant success, and Isaac received his bride.

In her book Reach for the Summit, former Tennessee basketball coach Pat Summit wrote, “There are different kinds of success. There is fame and fortune, which…is a pretty flimsy, short-lived kind of success. Then there is the more gratifying kind of success that comes from doing something you love, and doing it well. Still another kind of success results from committing to one person and raising a child with them. Yet another is finding a sustained faith in your church. But notice something about all the various forms of success. They are open-ended. They aren’t tasks that you finish. Success is a project that’s always under construction.”

Friends, God wants to give us success as He defines it—the fulfilling of His perfect will for our lives. That’s a lifelong process that unfolds as we follow Him daily.

The Church

1 Timothy 3:15…… I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

The church – the pillar and the ground (or foundation) of truth. What a thought and yet I wonder if we understand the real meaning. Today there seems to be a misunderstanding that the Church is a building manned by staff that is to do the work of the Great Commission. However, not all the pooled efforts of any church can make a Christian out of a lost man!

You see, the Christian life begins with the individual; a soul has a saving encounter with God, and the new life is born. Then, all else being equal, every individual Christian should find a local church where other believers come together to grow in their spiritual life, faith, and walk with the Lord. As well where they may hone their skills in order to accomplish the responsibilities given to us by our Lord.

Jesus very clearly defined the Church as the Body of Christ, the Bride of the Lamb, the habitation of God through the Spirit, the pillar and the ground of the Truth. And without doubt the most important body on earth is the Church of the Living God, which He purchased with His own blood! Not a building where we gather to worship. Therefore, my challenge to you is not to just come to church rather, BE THE CHURCH!

What If Jesus Came Today.

Luke 19:14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We will not have this man to reign over us.’

People have asked me if our present generation would gladly accept Jesus if He came today, at this time, instead of 2,000 years ago. With all that I have learned, my only answer is that I believe history repeat itself! Let me clarify.

As much as I would love for our generation to accept Jesus Christ for who He is, as the Savior of mankind, I don’t believe that Jesus would be received any different today, than when He walked this earth in the 1st century. In our own day, there are many who want to follow Jesus and still balk and even   reject completely surrendering to Him and doing a full spiritual housecleaning within their own lives. They say they want to follow Jesus, but their lives reveal they follow a religion instead.

When Jesus came, He was clear that to follow Him meant abrupt and drastic changes in the way you lived. The self-serving, self-gratifying aspects of your life would have to be converted to living in submission to the Savior, to serve Him and not ourselves. It wouldn’t be any different today than then, there would only be a handful of people who would truly accept this way of life and follow. The rest well…

Beyond that, there was an almost complete disdain for everything that Jesus taught, “Love your neighbor as yourself”. While we talk a good game, even our great country, battles daily with this one aspect. So I am afraid unfortunately that humanity’s choice would be the same today as then. However, you can begin to prove me wrong and make a choice today to follow Jesus with all you are and all that you have. That would be absolutely fine with me. I love to be wrong when its in your  best interest.

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.

Since the beginning of time there has been a desire in man’s heart to belong.    Anyone making even a quick survey of the Bible will discover that everything that man has done is because he wanted to belong to something bigger and better. Even the first man and woman failed in their initial        encounter with Satan, our archenemy, because they felt a need to belong. The rest of Scripture narrates this struggle.

In our day nothing has changed,   being a part of something bigger is still    important. From gang affiliations to sports fans, it’s all the same desire to belong. The problem is that this particular brotherhood leads to a path of destruction. God Himself, through the Holy Spirit, points out this    universal problem: The natural brotherhood of human beings is a sinful brotherhood. It is the brotherhood of all who are spiritually lost.

But I have good news. There is a real brotherhood that meets every desire you have, it is the brotherhood of the redeemed! It is the most important brotherhood of all. Today we simply call it the family of God. It is a brotherhood based on regeneration and restoration! The difference in this band of brothers is that once you’re in, the desire to belong is finally and forever But the only way you can become part of this brotherhood is to repent of you sins and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. So are you a part of this brotherhood? If not find me today I’ll tell you how you can be.

Glory Days!

Isaiah 49:8 Thus says the LORD: “In an acceptable time I have heard You, And in the day of salvation I have helped You…

I always get a little uneasy feeling when I find myself with people who have nothing to discuss but the glories of the days that are past! Now I like looking back and seeing where we have come from, that’s certainly a way to appreciate where we are now. However, I don’t want to live there.

Friends the Christian’s greatest event is before him, not behind him. Therefore, the whole direction we ought to look should be forward. Yet so many Christians seem to have their future already behind them! Their glory is behind them. Their only future was yesterday. Even their testimony, if they give it, reveals their backward look. Why are we not willing to believe what the Bible tells us? The Hope is in what is to come, not what has already been.

We should take a que from here. Yes, he occasionally took a quick, happy look backward just to remind himself of the grace and goodness of God and in his miraculous salvation, but he always ran forward!

Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead…

Decision! Decision!

2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

Millions of men and women refuse to face up to the fact that religion, in and of itself, is not enough to fulfill the sinner’s need. It is amazing how many things religious people want you to do. Start with infant baptism and end up with the last rites when you are 100 years old, and in all of that time your soul has been manipulated, mauled, and massaged to a point of comfort and complacency. And when it is all said and done, you are just what you are. A sinner who hasn’t received the truth of the Gospel. No doubt your intentions are good, but just because you religiously eat fish on Friday doesn’t mean you have been saved from the wages of your sin. What we need to understand is that when religion has done all it can, we are still a sinner who either went to church or didn’t.

Religion can put us on the roll, educate us, train us and instruct us. But after all that, there is still something within us that cries, “There must be more because I’m not comforted with the confidence I have and I have not found anything to satisfy it!”

Friends hear me please, only our Lord Jesus Christ is enough to satisfy the eternal longing in our souls.

The Family Of God

Ephesians 3:14-15 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named…

There is an important message within these verses for the family of God. The message is this: Next to God Himself we need each other most!

You see, God’s ideal for His family is a fellowship of faith, and a Christian community, based solely on the kinship we have in Jesus Christ. While salvation is an individual submission to God through Jesus, God never intended it be received and enjoyed apart from the larger company of believers. With that said, understand that to live within a religious family does not mean that we must approve everything that is done. However, God created us to need each other. Yes, we should go into our closet and pray in secret, but when we are through we should go back where the rest of the family is at. It’s where we belong.

Think about it. Even in today’s struggle for individuality, no one is wise enough, nor good enough, nor strong enough to live alone. The reason being is because we need each other. How else can we learn how to and sometimes how not to handle the things that life throws our way!

Family, our Lord who is the Great Shepherd has said that WE are the sheep of His pasture, therefore, it is in our nature to live with the flock. Best of all, where the sheep are, the Shepherd is!

God Loves US!

1 John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

As I think about the beautiful summer that has begun, I can’t help but think about how much our God loves us and how His love should be revealed in us. Why? You ask. Because He is what He is, and His love for us is limitless. By throwing ourselves into His arms with all our imperfections and knowing that He recognizes everything within us—and yet still loves us, should cause us to want to please Him!

Believe it or not, the God who desires our fellowship and communion is not hard to please, although He may be hard to satisfy. He only expects from us what He has Himself supplied for us. Even when He has to get on to us because of our foolishness, He even does that with a smile. That delighted, tender smile of a Father who is bursting with love over an imperfect child who every day is becoming more and more like His very child!

Folks, this is the best of the good news: God loves us for ourselves. He values our love more than He values galaxies He created.

God’s Will / Our Will

Acts 9:6 So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
The mystery of man’s free will is far too great for us to really comprehend! God said to Adam and Eve: “

You shalt not eat from this tree” (Genesis 2:16–17

). Here was a divine requirement calling for obedience on the part of those who had the power of choice and will. When they disobeyed, they usurped the right that was not theirs!

The poet Tennyson must have thought about this, when he wrote in his “In Memoriam”: “Our wills are ours, we know not how; our wills are ours to make them Thine!”. Now this might rub you the wrong way however it is the truth. As created beings, that is our ONLY right—to make our wills the will of God, to make the will of God our will! God is sovereign, and we are the creatures. He is the Creator and has the right to command us with the obligation that we should obey.

And listen though this is a challenge when we come to a real submission on our will to His then we understand what Jesus meant when He said, “My yoke is easy and My burden is light!” It is important to agree that true salvation restores the right of a Creator-creature relationship, acknowledging God’s right to our fellowship and communion! So go ahead make your will, God’s will.
